The process of purchasing your home gym’s first few items can be daunting.  There are so many different ways to go in regards of what type of gym you want.  However, there are certain pieces of home fitness equipment that every home gym needs.

Weights are an integral part of working out.  They help you to develop muscles which in turn help your body to burn fat faster.  It is a common misconception that cardio alone is enough for an overweight or obese person to get in shape.  A balanced workout regiment is most important.  Resistance bands can replace weights to some extent, but eventually, you are going to need weights.

There are a variety of options when it comes to weights.  First, you can purchase a set of several pairs of weights of varying heaviness or you could get an adjustable dumbbell.  If you want many pairs of set weights, you have to decide what weights you want to start off with and don’t forget to purchase a dumbbell rack as well to keep your home gym organized.

If you are more interested in adjustable dumbbells, you have to consider manual or automatic.  Automatic adjustable dumbbells can change weights with a flick of a switch or turn of a knob, but tend to be a bit more expensive, while manual adjustable dumbbells are much more affordable but take some time to switch between the different weights.

To expand the exercises you can perform, a weight bench is a great tool to have.  Regular chairs can break and not give your back enough support, both of which can lead to injury.  The best weight bench you could get would be a collapsible variety that can fold up and a bench that can have varying angles to lift weights at.  With just these few must have items, you will have a vast amount of exercises you can perform and you are on your way to getting healthier.
