Do you have a room or two in your home that could use a pick me up?  If so, a new ceiling fan might be the perfect solution.  Your local Home Depot has a great selection of Hampton Bay fans that are very nice and also affordable.  If you can learn how to install them yourself it is an inexpensive project that you can get done in one day.  Here are some tips for getting a new ceiling fan up in your home.

1.  Find a brand that you really like —  I always buy Hampton Bay Lighting products.  The are high quality and look like they would cost more than they do.  They are also very user friendly.  If you are going to install them yourself you will love the easy to follow directions that are geared toward those with little experience. Once you have installed one or two of these, it will be a piece of cake.  You will be able to install them in the future quickly and easily.

2.  Learn basic wiring first —  Before you attempt to install a ceiling fan, it is a good idea to start with something easy and increase your comfort level.  I great idea is to practice with a switch.  Move on to a simple light and when you start on your ceiling fan you will be much more comfortable.  It can be a little tricky when working up high on a ceiling and balancing on a ladder.  This is probably not the best time to learn wiring.  Building up your confidence and skill level is a good idea.

3. Tackle the ceiling fan when you feel you are ready —  As mentioned above, working on a ceiling fan that is hanging upside down while standing on a ladder can be challenging.  You will have a lot more success and less frustration if you build up to it.  Don’t let this scare you.  It is not a difficult project.  It is just not the one you want to attempt as your first project.  You will know when you are ready.  Take your time and you will be glad you did.

A new ceiling fan will add a lot to a room.  If you are motivated to learn, this is a project that you can easily do yourself.  You will also have a sense of accomplishment and you will have a new life skill that you can use in the future.
